In memory of Brother Dale E. Maxson
MAXSON, Dale Everett, 82, born August 4, 1929 in Rochelle, Illinois, died peacefully after a sudden illness on January 26, 2012 in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his loving children, Mark Jay, Jo Ann, Matthew William, and James Andrew. He was a beloved grandfather to six grandchildren, Joseph Andrew, Michelle Paula, Aaron Brooks, Brianna Marie, Kacy Diane, and Zachary Kenji Everett. His last few years were spent at Mountain View Retirement Village where he was well taken care of and had many friends. He was married to Nancy Lee Halsey for nearly 60 years before she passed away in September 2009, and they had a happy and very successful marriage. He was her “Poo” and she was his “Moo”. He graduated from the University of Arizona in Mechanical Engineering (1952) and while working at Barber-Colman and Fluor was one of the leading HVAC engineers in his time, designing HVAC systems for buildings in 4 continents. Dale was a man of many talents including building a modern house in Phoenix and engineering high fidelity amplifiers and stereos. He was also one of the first engineers to actively use computers to aid in design and analysis. Dale was an avid photographer who shot and developed his own prints in a well-equipped self-run dark room. His “Rockford and West” series of photographs was famous to his family and many a wall has a signed “DEM” photo hanging on it. Following the long lineage of Maxson men, he was an excellent cook and baker renowned for his fudge, marzetti, black bottom pie, breads. and other delicacies. He and Nancy loved to travel and Vermont, Chicago, Arizona, and California (Big Sur and Carmel) were their favorite places to go – as well as any Frank Lloyd Wright structure the world over, which he lovingly went along with to please his wife, who was an ardent fan of FLW. He was a member of the Freemasons, joining in 1956 and becoming a life member of the Horicon Lodge in Rochelle in 1991. He was also a Tebala Shriner. As a young man, he was the winner of the much heralded Hackett Trophy in 1946 for excellence in football at Rochelle Township High School. A constant source of pleasure for Dale was going to movies, eating out, and long walks taking pictures. His family and friends cherished the times that they shared together and he will be forever held in their hearts and memories. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Mountain View Retirement Village, 7900 North La Canada Drive, Tucson. An additional service will be held for the interment of his remains at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle on May 6. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Dale. Arrangements entrusted to DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME (520-297-9007).
